Eve’s first encounter with Janet Jackson was all snots and gratitude.
On Monday’s episode of The Talk, rapper-actress Eve recalls a moment when someone spiked her drink at an industry party and how the Rhythm Nation Queen came to her rescue.
The 39 year-old Philly native sat down with the ladies of the CBS’s The Talk to share a personal and chilling moment from her early days in Hollywood. While attending an industry after-party, someone had spiked her drink while she was mingling with the crowd. *Note: she was at a party where she knew almost everyone.

“I was kinda walking around and putting my drink down and talking to people and coming back and picking my drink up,” she recalls. “And probably a hour after the last time I picked my drink up I started feeling crazy.”
Eve doesn’t share what she was drinking but she says she was not drunk and remembers not feeling right at all.
“I knew immediately something was different and it was weird because I was there and I wasn’t there, ” says Eve. “I forget who I was with but whoever I was with, I tapped them on the shoulder and said ‘something was wrong’ , and they were like, ‘No you’re just drunk’, and I started crying hysterically.”
The people she was with eventually led her to a private room to try to calm the now-hysterical rapper down. And while Eve was crying or “snot crying” as she recalls it , an angel appears.
” I hear this really soft voice that’s like ‘it’s ok I’ll take care of it,” she says.
That soft, angelic voice turned out to be no one other than Janet Jackson. The “That’s The Way Love Goes” icon consoled Eve and told her associates ‘I’ll take care of it.’
“She’s like ‘I got this, don’t worry, relax, calm down’,” Eve says. “And I am so ugly when I snot cry and I was so embarrassed and I was like, ‘I didn’t want you to meet you like this.”
Eve does not share who else was at that party or what happened afterwards, but to have the Rhythm Nation Queen herself come and help a sistah out? Out of everyone else, who she apparently knew at that party? What are the odds? As women, we have to stick together, no matter the odds and Janet is obviously aware of that. Kudos Queen! And we don’t fault Eve for her “ugly snot cry”. Even if that situation would NOT have happened, there probably would’ve still been a ugly cry from us!
Needless to say, the pair formed a lifelong bond after that and are friends to this day.
And Eve’s story isn’t uncommon at all. According to a report in the Psychology of Violence published in a 2016 NBC article, out of the 6,000 college students surveyed, at least 8% believed their drinks were spiked and 1% admitted to spiking others.
But when attending any kind of parties, we can take away a few lessons from Eve’s story.
1. NEVER leave your drink unattended. If you do happen to walk away from your cup, don’t worry about getting it back, just fix you another one. Plenty of red cups to go around.
2. Take caution in the company you keep. The ‘Let Me Blow Your Mind’ rapper mentioned she knew almost everyone at that party. If that’s the case, someone could have at least told her there was something in her drink.
3. Finally to completely avoid this situation , take Sheryl Underwood’s advice: BRING. YOUR.OWN. DRINK.
