A global empowerment brand that uses its platform to inspire young black girls has released has its new book. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic highlights accounts from phenomenal Black women throughout history.

Real-life stories from modern influential women such as poet laureate Amanda Gorman and pro-tennis star Naomi Osaka to our icons from the past, like journalist and co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), are told.

#Blackgirlmagic partnership

The project is a collaborative effort between Rebel Girls founder and Huffington Post’s Black Voices, Lily Workneh, and #BlackGirlMagic Creator, CaShawn Thompson. Both women are co-editors of the book.

“Rebel Girls is proud to bring the Black Girl Magic hashtag to life through authentic storytelling of inspiring innovators, creators, leaders, and champions,” said Workneh in a press release.  “100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic is designed to acknowledge, applaud and amplify the incredible stories of Black women and girls from the past and present; and to celebrate Black Girl Magic around the world. Because if she can see it, she can be it.”

100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic was written by four Black women and illustrated by 60 more Black women and non-binary artists. Readers are also given space in the book to journal their own #BlackGirlMagic stories.

Thompson, who popularized the #BlackGirlMagic hashtag in 2013,  is touched on how the movement continues to influence Black women globally. The hashtag was created to “uplift and praise the accomplishments, beauty and other amazing qualities of Black women,” according to her website.

“The #BlackGirlMagic hashtag has been used all over the world and I saw firsthand the inspiration and direct impact it has had on Black women everywhere,” said Thompson.

She went on, “I’m so proud that Rebel Girls has used their platform to create a tangible representation of what the original Black Girl Magic hashtag means to me, and what it can inspire for Black girls everywhere.”

Because if she can see it, she can be it.
