Get your Proud snacks ready! The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder are coming with the smoke for 2022! Disney+ dropped the first teaser for the upcoming reboot on Friday during its 2021 Disney Plus Day Event.

When does it premiere?

The series begins streaming on Disney+ on Feb. 23.

The new trailer features Penny Proud, looking a little older and taking selfies, along with the rest of her family; her father, Oscar (voiced by Tommy Davidson); Trudy (voiced by Paula Jai Parker); the twins, Bebe and CeCe, who are toddlers now and Suga Mama, played by Jo Marie Payton.

‘A fresh start’

Kyla Pratt, who voices Penny Proud, spoke exclusively in a cover story with RoyalTee this past summer about returning to the show, she first started working on when she was 14-years-old.

I feel like Penny is getting a fresh start because she’s still the same old Penny, but she’s learning brand new things,” Pratt told RoyalTee. She shared the new trailer on her Instagram.  “And she’s being reminded of things that she’s already learned. I feel like Penny, especially now, would be one of those people marching outside.”

The 35-year-old Call Me Kat actress and mother added, “She would be one of those people that’s speaking up for herself and the people around her that look like her and even people who don’t look like her.  I feel like Penny voices her opinions and she voices who she is and what she stands up for in such a way that I think everybody wishes that they could. And so that’s why it’s always been fun to be her and to yell out random things.”

The reboot was first announced in 2019 and the creators say bringing back the show was always on their minds. The show ended in August 2005.

“In our minds, the show never really went away, as we still had tons of stories left to tell. It’s the perfect time to bring back this show, and we can’t wait to take fans, old and new alike, on this journey with us,” said creator/executive producer Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar, in a statement.

Cedric the Entertainer,  Karen Malina White, Soleil Moon Frye, and Alisa Reyes will also be returning. Keke Palmer and Billy Porter are among the new characters joining the cast. Special guests will include Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance The Rapper, Tina Knowles, Gabrielle Union, Tiffany Haddish, Eva Longeria, Anthony Anderson and Normani.
