The obstacles we face in life are only stepping stones towards our ultimate goals. Ieshia Champs is a living testimony to this statement.  The mother of 5 is a soon-to-be graduate of Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

Last week, Champs posted a photos of herself in her graduate robes , along with her three children on her Instagram and the images have gone viral.  But like most success stories, the road to get here was not easy.

Champs shares her story with WWL-TVWhen she was seven years-old, she was taken away from parents with her siblings and was placed into various foster homes until they were eventually taken by her uncle on her mother’s side. Soon after, she dropped out of high school and had her first child when she was 19. She was inspired to become a lawyer after a child services caseworker offered her and her siblings a place to stay. Her goal was to get others to see what this case worker see in her. Nearly 14 years later, she’s one step closer to achieving that goal.

Its Champ’s hardships and perseverance thousands of people are admiring today.

“I look at that picture, and I cry, because I cannot believe it,” she tells WWL-TV.

Her children are the fuel behind her fire.

“When I look at them, I know there is no way I want them to go back to that,” she says.  “So therefore, they are my reason to keep going.”

Champs will be graduating with her doctorate degree in May. She aspires to work with families and ultimately become a judge.
