Stress is no stranger to Black women. Recognizing this truth, Black Girl Vitamins (BGV) recently launched Calm Girl, a daily supplement designed to ease stress, balance hormones, and boost emotional well-being.

“Black women face higher rates of stress-related illnesses, and Calm Girl is our response to that reality,” a representative from BGV shared in a press release. “It’s more than just a supplement—it’s daily support for women carrying more than their share.”

What makes Calm Girl unique is Ashwagandha, an ancient adaptogen long celebrated in holistic healing practices for its calming properties. The plant-based gummy vitamin is paired with Zinc, Spinach Powder, and Vitamin D3, a nutrient nearly 80% of Black women are deficient in, including BGV founders Maxine and Nnamdi Ugwu.

The Vitamin D deficiency was their source of inspiration to launch the health and wellness brand in 2021, starting with D3 gummies. From there the company has expanded offering over 15 different supplements for various needs.

“The fact that 50% of Black women deal with chronic stress was a key factor leading to Calm Girl’s development, as we try to bridge the health gap both physically and mentally,” the BGV team shared exclusively to RoyalTee.

Why Calm Girl Matters

Studies show that Black women are twice as likely to experience high levels of chronic stress, with ripple effects that include high blood pressure, depression, fatigue, and even shortened life expectancy.

“The founding team hoped to create a diverse product line that addresses various health issues within our community, along with spreading knowledge and awareness via social channels,” a BGV repped shared with RoyalTee.

BGV shares Calm Girl vitamins could help regulating menstrual cycles, lowering cortisol, the “stress hormone” linked to anxiety and belly fat, reduce fatigue and enhance libido and sexual wellness. The vitamins also serve as a gentle reminder that rest and self-care aren’t indulgences but essential for our well-being.

“For Black women, stress isn’t just a feeling—it’s a health risk,” said the brand’s spokesperson in a press release. “Calm Girl is our reminder that rest, balance, and care aren’t luxuries—they’re necessities.”
