Nationally recognized social justice advocate and author Tamika Mallory will visit St. Petersburg on Sunday, Nov. 1, for a Souls to the Polls event bringing together community members for an afternoon of civic engagement, entertainment and family-friendly activities.
The free event will take place at the historic St. Pete Coliseum, located at 535 Fourth Ave. N., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Mallory, a prominent voice in the national social justice movement, is known for her work advocating for racial equality, criminal justice reform and community empowerment. She gained national recognition as one of the organizers of the 2017 Women’s March on Washington and has continued her advocacy through public speaking, organizing and writing.
A highlight of Sunday’s gathering will be a special “Stroll to the Poll” honoring Nolan Wells at 3 p.m.
In addition to the civic engagement programming, attendees can enjoy free food, live entertainment, games and contests for children and adults, door prizes and other activities.
Souls to the Polls events have long been associated with community-based voter participation efforts, particularly within Black churches and communities.
Sunday’s event comes just two days before the Nov. 3 general election.
