Democrat Angie Nixon’s bid to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate ended Tuesday as Republican incumbent Ashley Moody won the statewide race.
The race was close with Nixon receiving over 48% of the vote, compared with Moody’s 50%, according to CNN at the time of this reporting.
Nixon campaigned on lowering costs for working families. Her platform called for Medicare for All, universal childcare, paid family and sick leave, and more affordable housing, with higher taxes on billionaires helping fund those priorities.

Nixon posted an encouraging message on her Instagram to her supporters, saying the fight continues. “What we built together is REAL,” she wrote. “Every door you knocked, every call you made, every dollar you gave and every friend you brought to the polls proved that working people in this state are ready for something better.”
Nixon ended her caption on a high note and added, “That movement isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I. The fight continues.”
