“I kinda didn’t want to post this, but someone said, “the whole world needs to know how great you are…”

Being smart is nothing to be ashamed of. For Kayla Willis, it has earned her numerous, paid for options to pursue higher education. The Georgia teenager applied to 44 schools and was accepted to 31 of them,  including several HBCUs such as Florida A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Albany State, Fort Valley, and Howard University.

“My goal was to have options,” she told Fox 5 Atlanta. “I didn’t want to limit myself. I also asked the question, how can I go to school for free?”

A picture of her standing in front of her accepted schools started going viral.

Eventually, Kayla decided she will be attending Fisk University in Tennessee on a full ride scholarship in the fall. Overall, Willis received $925,000 worth of scholarships. The 17-year-old also shared her entire college applying on Twitter, in hopes of encouraging others not to be ashamed of rejection.

“I’m here to encourage,” she said.  “If you are proactive and persevere, you can achieve any goal.”

No word yet on what she will be majoring in. Willis currently attends Westlake High School in Atlanta. She is also the co-founder of a community organization called Going Against The Grain, which encourages minority teens to fight for civil rights and social injustice in their community.
