#QuarantineChronicles: Fashion Designers Are Pulling Out All The Stops For Face Masks

As basic masks run out, fashion designers are coming up with creative ways for us to look good and stay safe.

Before purchasing a mask make sure:

  • It’s made from cotton or a tightly-woven, water-resistant fabric that has a fiber pouch.
  • The mask is wide enough to cover your face and chin

Tampa-based fashion designer, Elizabeth Carson Racker, is helping others through this pandemic by making unique designer masks with materials from her ECR Fashion Design Boutique. Prices start at $10.

Dallas based clothing brand, Esé Azénabor Atelier, has been creating for our first responders on the frontline. She has sewn over 2,000 masks to donate to 11 local hospitals. The following day, the men and women of Esé Azénabor Atelier started working on the blue masks for local police officers to protect themselves as the work on the front line.

Another fashion designer, Claude Lavie Kameni, and her team have also been doing there part in providing masks for those on the front lines and those in dire need of a mask. A Gofundme page has been set up to raise $25,000 so Laviebyck can donate 10,000 masks to thousands of healthcare providers in multiple hospitals across the country. She and her team also sell these filtered designer masks for $10. Proceeds go towards donations for providing nurses and doctors with masks.

Face covering is recommended to protect yourself from COVID-19, but it is not required.  However, several states are currently debating on whether to make wearing masks outside mandatory.
