Watch out world, ABC star Yara Shahidi, is grown now.

Based at ABC Studios, Yara Shahidi will be accompanied by her business partner and full-time mother, Keri Shahidi to launch their new production company, 7th Sun. There she will develop and produce scripted and alternative projects for cable television. With her company she wants to direct her focus on “projects that touch upon themes of history, heritage, culture, and joy,” 7th Sun says in a statement.

Most affectionately known as Zoey Johnson from the original Kenya Barris creation, black-ish, Shahidi’s career took flight at the curation of the newer ABC and Freeform spinoff grown-ish. Now ranked as the No.1 live-action cable comedy series of the 2019-2020 TV season within African American Adults between the ages 18 and 34 years old, Shahidi’s impact within the entertainment business has just become a force to be reckoned with.

As the world gets wind of the exciting news, Shahidi took to Instagram in celebration writing, “The vision is set. The slate is built. Grateful to my ABC family & excited to join the television landscape to collaborate and push forward the stories of our many intersections.” She also saluted to Barris for “paving the way.”

“I’ve called her ‘McMogul’ for years seeing all that she has accomplished should come as no surprise to anyone that knows her,” Barris says of Shahidi to Deadline. “This deal is just the beginning for Yara, and I’m excited to see where she takes this next chapter and the storyteller she becomes.”

Already, Shahidi, 20, has become a strong vocal activist and champion for racial justice. Paving the way and inspiring young African American girls all across the world, helping to find their voice and encouraging them to use it to create something beautiful in the eyes of the world, Yara Shahidi fans are holding on to the edge of their seats in great anticipation of what is to come in the future of the Shahidi’s new production company and storytelling opportunities.
