Meena Harris released her second children’s book “Ambitious Girl” on Jan. 19, one day before her aunt, Kamala Harris was sworn-in as our next vice president of the United States.
Harris revealed the project with a TikTok video of her daughter reading the book and recognizing a picture of her mother in the book’s sleeve.
The book holds an inspirational message catered specifically to young girls.
The description on Phenomenalgirl.com reads, “Anyone who’s ever been underestimated or overshadowed will find inspiration in this empowering new picture book from Meena Harris…”.
The mother of two is also the author of the New York Times Bestseller, “Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea”, based on her aunt and mother’s misadventures.
Dedicated to ambition
The message of the book falls similarly to the plight of Vice President Harris, in which perseverance despite others’ doubts is disregarded and ability is rewarded.
The book details the past struggles that women have had to endure and how to use hurtful words and phrases as fuel to our fire.
Strong women and girls are uplifted and the frenzy of perfection is discarded. It is dedicated to the women and girls who have been underestimated and overlooked.

Empowerment we need
“Ambitious Girl” is the hopeful message that young girls need right now. It’s the book for the little girl with big dreams.

The Harris women have been on a roll, as Harris’s aunt and mother served as inspiration for her last book, “Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea” and the new one.
“For young girls to see someone who looks like them elected, to the second-highest office in the land, is really an incredible feeling that we’ve all been fighting for a very long time,” Harris shared with the Business Insider about the importance of representation.
Meena Harris is a lawyer and founder of Phenomenal, a female-powered brand dedicated to bringing awareness to social causes, such as the Breonna Taylor Foundation.
