Rapper Cardi B revealed that she plans to launch a new haircare line by the end of this year. In addition to promoting healthy hair, the line will help educate others (and possibly debunk a few myths) about ethnic hair types.

Cardi’s mommy-daughter hair journey with her daughter, Kulture, inspired the new venture during quarantine. The two often wear homemade hair masks with ingredients such as mayonnaise, avocado oil, and banana.

“This year I will be coming out with a hairline that I’ve been working on at home for my hair and my daughter’s,” she wrote on Instagram. “However, I think it is time for people to educate themselves on nationality, race and ethnicity.”

How Cardi Is Promoting Hair In All Its Forms

The announcement also follows recent controversy over the “I Like It” singer’s hair length. On the Shade Room’s repost of Cardi’s length-check video, commenters made assumptions about why it was so long.

One Instagram user wrote, “Dominicans have long hair, she’s mixed… What are we supposed to expect?”

Cardi replied, “Loud and wrong. My hair journey is on my highlights story. Please people need to Google or pick up a book about people nationalities.”

Cardi, the daughter of a Trinidadian mother and Dominican father, also took to Instagram to speak on her two identities’ duality.

“Being Hispanic/Latina don’t make your hair long, don’t make your skin light [and] don’t make your face features slim especially [if you come from] Latin countries from the Caribbean islands,” she wrote. “DNA has something to do with your hair, not your nationality.”

It is unclear what types of products this new haircare line will sell. If Cardi’s natural hair masks and social media clapbacks are any indicators, they will be filled with natural goodness for an array of hair types.
