Royal Women, let’s face it. There’s nothing like a man who respects and honors a woman. “Queen Sugar” star, Kofi Siriboe was a prime example this week when he tweeted out a special post to his mother.
But when someone tried to clap back, he responded with another post.
In the spirit of pre-Valentine’s Day, here are 5 things a man does that shows he respects and honors you as his woman.
1. He listens.
It may not sound like a big deal but listening is key. Most guys are not good listeners. The things you say can go in one ear and out the other. Or there’s the classic selective hearing. A man who respects you will make an attempt to understand you, even if he doesn’t always agree with you. Or it could be those awkward moments where he doesn’t really have any response to what. For example, menstrual cramps? Hmm, they will never get it. But they will understand why you need that cup of hot tea and cry when a infomercial about a lost or abandoned dog comes on T.V. Also your opinion matters. He never has the final say. He will always make sure you have a voice.
2. He’s a man of his word
When he says he is going to do something for you, he is going to do something for you. When he says he’s going to pick you up at 8 o’clock, he’s going to pick you up at 8 o’clock. And if he’s running late, you will get an advance notice. When he says he’s going to wash the dishes, he’s going to dry them as well. But in all seriousness, he’s always going to be there for you, he is dependable. No favor is too big or too small, you two are a team. He picks up where you lack and vice versa.
3. He’ll never call you out your name
A man who respects you will never disrespect you. Royal Women, if we’re going to be honest with each other, we can definitely push our men’s buttons at time. But no matter how upset he may get, a man who respects you will never call you below what you are. This includes the B-word or H- word or any other name that has to do with a female animal or common household object. ( And a side note as Royal Women, we should never get comfortable with being degraded. )
4. He empowers you
Whether its professionally, mentally or spiritually, a man who honors and respects you will encourage you to reach your full potential in all aspects of your life. He is one of your biggest cheerleaders and greatest supporters. Seeing you win is a win for him as well. ( Yep! Bae is doing her thing! And I’m proud of her! )
5. He never lets you forget you are his Queen
Don’t listen to our fellow millennials who tell you chivalry is dead. Holding the door, buying flowers, pulling out chairs, all of these actions are very much alive and practiced with men. A man who honors you as his Queen will never let a day go by without showing it. He tells you he loves you and means it. You’re just as beautiful to him in sweatpants, fuzzy socks and bonnet than in your sexiest dress and high heels. He makes you feel safe and secure. He knows how to worship not only your body but your spirit as well. He values your friendship and just being in your company. His behavior with you doesn’t change around friends or family. He lets everyone know you are his lady. He not only sees a future with you but is planning it as well. This is a man you can possibly walk down the aisle to. All in a nutshell, its a soulmate type of situation.
Royal Women, if you have not experienced any or all of these attributions above, maybe its time to start reevaluating who you’re calling your Prince Charming. It would not hurt much to know your worth as well and what you deserve. Also self-love, you cannot give it to someone else if you do not have it yourself. Ladies, we all have someone who’s destined to share the throne! But until he’s revealed, keep building your empire and yourself. After all, fate has a funny way of working things out for our greater good!
