Lizzo has a lot of love for herself. But the next person she has the greatest love for is Beyoncé. The body positivity, “Truth Hurts” singer won a Grammy for Best Record of the Year, for About Damn Time. During her acceptance speech, she took a moment to pay homage to Queen Bey, who also had a historic night. Beyoncé is now the most decorated Grammy artist in history,.

“Beyoncé, in the 5th grade I skipped school to see you perform,” she tearfully told Beyoncé.  “You changed my life. The way you made me feel, I was like, ‘I want to make people feel this way with my music.’ You clearly are the artist of our lives!”

“That moment between Lizzo and Beyoncé brought me so much joy,” journalist Sylvia O’Bell tweeted about the moment.

Earlier that evening, she almost lost it when host Trevor Noah said that the Renaissance queen was in the building. The 34-year-old nearly  jumped out of her seat to look around the room and try to catch a glimpse of the “BREAK MY SOUL” artist, mouthing excitedly, “where?” The pair met up later and snapped a picture. “I won,” she captioned the photo on her Instagram. The pair also took a snapshot with Adele, who won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Beyoncé and Lizzo (2023)

During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden‘s popular Carpool Karaoke last June, Lizzo shared how Beyoncé’s catalog of music had helped her through tough times.

“When I was shy or when I didn’t think I was cool and when I was getting picked on, I would listen to Beyoncé in my bedroom and it would transport me,” she said, as reported by USA Today. “I would feel something. I would feel like my life was going to be better.”

She added,”I listened to B’Day on repeat and I would just sing B’Day all the time,” Lizzo said. “The way she makes people feel is how I want to make people feel with music. Like, she’s been my North Star.”
