Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty is truly a Royal Woman who can juggle and excel in a few areas. She’s a singer, actress, philanthropist and now an ambassador. The government of Barbados has appointed Rihanna to be their Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Rihanna was appointed the cultural ambassador for Barbados in 2008, in which she performed promotional work for their tourist industry.But with her new role she was also be promoting education and investment for the island.
“Rihanna has a deep love for this country and this is reflected in her philanthropy, especially in the areas of health and education,” Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said in the statement. “She also shows her patriotism in the way she gives back to this country and continues to treasure the island as her home. ”
“She has also demonstrated, beyond her success as a pop icon, significant creative acumen and shrewdness in business,” Mottley continued. “It is therefore fitting that we engage and empower her to play a more definitive role as we work to transform Barbados.”
The singer said she couldn’t be more proud to represent her country with such a prestigious title.
“Every Barbadian is going to have to play their role in this current effort, and I’m ready and excited to take on the responsibility,” Rihanna said in an official statement. “I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mottley and her team to reimagine Barbados,” she stated.
The “Pon De Replay” queen is no stranger to humanitarian work and she never forgets where she comes from. Last year, she was named Harvard University’s Humanitarian of the Year Award. Her charitable works include establishing a cancer screening and treatment center in Barbados and creating the Clara Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program for Caribbean students attending college in the U.S. and her support for other foundations, such as UNICEF, Alzheimer’s Association , Red Cross, Shriners Hospital For Children and Red Cross. Her philanthropy also extends to the motherland. The megastar has offered her assistance to improve the education rates for kids in Africa, specifically Malawi, where Rihanna is an ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education.
