1. Beyoncé
With 66 nominations and 23 wins according to the Grammy’s official website, Beyoncé is one of the most awarded female artists in Grammy history. This year the 38-year-old knocked us over the head with “Homecoming: The Live Album”, which became one of her highest acclaimed albums with a 9.3/10 score on Pitchfork, and 4.5/5 rating by the Rolling Stones. This album has been submitted for Album of The Year and for Best Urban Contemporary Album. But Mrs. Carter didn’t stop there. She continued to snatch our edges out with “The Lion King: The Gift”. Her stunning music video for the song “Spirit” has a high probability to be nominated and winning Best Music Video of the Year. Queen Bey is likely to be nominated in both categories and likely to win for Best Urban Contemporary Album. But when it comes to the Album of the Year award, Beyoncé has some stiff competition with likely nominees such as Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey.
2. Lizzo
The 31-year-old is fast becoming the new face of the body positivity movement. Her breakout single, “Truth Hurt” was submitted for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Although the song came out 2 years ago, its been number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 for at least 5 weeks. Lizzo has a lot of mainstream recognition having multiple commercials using her songs, performing at the Video Music Awards (VMAs) and let’s not forget about her epic performance at the BET awards. Fingers crossed “Truth Hurts” will get nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Her album “Cause I Love You’ was submitted for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary, but she has stiff competitors so whether she will be nominated is hard to guess.
3. Megan The Stallion
The 24-year-old’s #HotGirlSummer will likely pay off. Her “Fever” album has been submitted for Album of the Year and Rap Album of the Year. It debuted at #10 on Billboard’s 200. Her single, “Cash Shit” peaked at #36 on Billboard’s Top 100. Her critical reception for the album was not bad either with Pitchfork giving the album an 8/10. Her biggest competition to claim the ‘Rap Album of the Year’- Tyler and Ms. Bodak Yellow, Cardi B.
4. Rosalía
Hailing from Spain, the 26-year-old’s second album, “El Ma Querer ” (The Bad Loving), has been nominated for Album of the Year and Latin Urban Album of the Year. The single, “Malamente”, was nominated multiple times in the 19th Latin Grammy Awards. Though she has tough competition, the album was well-received by critics so it has a good probability to be nominated as Album of the Year. Rosalía also seems likely to be nominated and win the Latin Urban Album of the Year.
5. Normani
The former Fifth Harmony member doesn’t have an album but her single, “Motivation” is considered for Song of the Year. “Dancing with a Stranger” featuring Sam Smith could be up for both Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Both songs are on the Billboard Top 100.
Side note: Did Normani kill it for Fenty or did she kill it for Fenty?
