“Other women are not my competition. I stand with them, not against them.”  Its a sassy phrase that holds a lot of truth and is empowering women across the country to rethink their competition.

Kerry Washington and Serena Williams are among the women making saying help from other strong females has been critical to their success. The ladies confessed their “sheroes”  in a Youtube video today to promote the “Together Women Can ” campaign.

“I’m going to try to say this without getting really emotional, but I’m not really sure what my life will look  like if it were not for Shonda Rhimes.  She has so much power but she wheels it so compassionately and responsibly, ” says Washington.  kerry shonda

The video is an initiative put on by the non-profit, LeanIn.org, which is dedicated to helping women achieve their goals. LeanIn.org was founded by Facebook COO,  Sheryl Sandberg. The campaign is meant to raise awareness of the ways that women can support each other in the workplace and encourage confidence and leadership skills in girls. There’s also tips for mentors and guidance for modeling leadership skills for girls. Lena Dunham, Emma Watson , Eva Longoria, newscaster Megyn Kelly and soccer star Abby Wambach also appear in the video. By the way, Serena is inspired by her sister, of course- Venus!
