Thank the melanin gods it’s not what we thought but everything we loved.

The self-proclaimed “Queen of Reggae” made a bold statement on Monday when she revealed a new,  lighter-skinned version of herself  to the world. The look was a move to promote her latest song, “Black Hypocrisy.”

Many fans jumped to the conclusion that the “Love and Hip-Hop ” star had fallen into the epidemic of skin-bleaching, a popular practice in which Jamaicans call the ‘Snow White complex’ .However, we’re happy to report her stunt was simply, just that, a stunt. The reggae artist had NO bleaching done to her skin and used the image to raise awareness about the issue.

In her video for “Black Hypocrisy” she begins it by explaining her struggles with colorism and motivated young women with the following affirmation:

I have a dream, that one day black women will start supporting each other rather than bashing each other. Ladies! Never forget that your are:
Beautiful
Lovely
Attractive
Courageous
Kind

I am dripping melanin with honey; I am black without apology.

Her new (hopefully temporary ) looked has already launched the #blackhypocrisychallenge which has already gone viral on Instagram and Twitter.

Amara La Negra responded to Spice’s stunt in her own Instagram post. She said she sees the message Spice is trying to project and whether it’s a stunt or the truth, she would never stop talking about colorism  and racism in the Latin community.
