#OnTheGo

For  Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April), Tarana Burke continues to spread her  ‘me too’ message. Throughout the month, Burke will be touring five historically black universities and colleges, with Dr. Yaba Blay. According to her website, “HBCUs have not been able to move the work forward compared to PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions)”and the ‘me too’ tour is meant to explore this imbalance and explore the rape culture on predominately black campuses.

In 2018, Burke says she spoke at more than 70 schools and only two HBCUs and she wanted to change that statistic. According to The HBCU Campus Sexual Assault Activity, fewer than 20% of victims assault at HBCUs report the crime and the ones who do say their assailants almost never receive disciplinary consequences from schools and law enforcement.

The tour is meant to be a space for students, including survivors, to talk, vent, heal and most importantly, come up with proactive solutions. There will also be a workshop for male and male-identifying students.  The five tour stops are Howard University, Atlanta University Center, Alabama State University, North Carolina Central University and Florida A&M University. Each stop will also feature a special guest. The event is free
