Don’t call it a comeback! More like a rebirth!

via GIPHYIf you had a flip phone and rocked ruffled, denim skirts, low-rise jeans,  jersey dresses and plastic belts with bedazzled name plates on them, this news is for you- correction, for us! Kimora Lee Simmons-Leissner announced that she repurchased the brand and was coming out with a collaboration this summer on International Women’s Day back in March, describing it as the “rebirth of her baby.” The brand is expected to launch this Thursday ( June  13) with its first collection.

Forever 21 tightened our edges a little more by reporting the same countdown, suggesting that the two brands will be collaborating on the relaunch.

On Wednesday night, Forever 21 followed up with another IG video teasing Kimora, Ming Lee and Aoki’s name on roller skates. The three are working together on the relaunch.

So far there has been no official outfit other than the social media posts. We’re going to start calling this kind of promotion the ‘Beyonce Method’ ( Bey announces nothing. it just drops).

Leissner first launched Baby Phat  in 1999 to accompany her ex-husband Russell Simmons’ Phat Fashions clothing line and served as the brand’s creative director until she left it in 2010.

Outside of its influential role in the development of hip-hip fashion in the early 2000s, Baby {Phat in its heyday was renowned for its celebration and empowerment of women of color, a message that will no doubt resonate with young women today.

“It’s perfect timing for this,” she tells WWD. “Over the past several years, we realized the brand resonates with people and lives deep in their souls.”

No word yet on if the collection will include Baby Phat’s classic two-piece velour sets. If that’s the case, than Russell needs to return with the Phat Farms so we can have full outfit.
