Lyric “Yhung” Chanel, a 13-year-old cancer patient whose journey has caught the attention of several celebrities, including Beyoncé, lost her battle to the disease.

According to her family, Chanel’s fight against brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma began two years ago. According to her Instagram, she had survived four brain surgeries. Chanel underwent another procedure last year at Texas Medical Center to remove a tumor; however, it grew back and spread to various parts of her brain. Doctors told Chanel’s family that her chances at survival were slim – at most, two months.

Chanel And Her Journey Through Instagram

Chanel and her mother started documenting her cancer journey on Instagram in 2019. Since then, the page has grown into a community of more than 500K followers. The page shows that Chanel was not just a child cancer patient. She was a lover of fashion and music, too.

She frequently posted videos of her singing to songs by Beyoncé, establishing her membership in the BeyHive. In September 2020, Chanel published a video of herself with a bouquet from her. The flowers also came attached with a heartfelt note from the songstress.

“Honey, Honey I can see the stars all the way from here, I can feel the sun whenever you’re near. I was so moved to see how these lyrics inspired you, not nearly as much as you inspired me. I can’t wait to meet you one day and I’m so happy you’re home safely. You are a survivor. God bless, B,” the card read.

Throughout her battle, Chanel and Houston-based rapper Trae The Truth shared a strong bond. The duo grew so close that Trae often referred to her as his niece. Chanel’s mother took to Instagram to thank the rapper for his love, writing “To Lyric and myself! Thank you for always being there.”
