#OnTheRise

Although, COVID put a pause on the world. It didn’t put a stop to new ideas, new projects, inspiration. The COVID pandemic gave us the push we needed to try something new. Jiggs, whose real name is Ja’hauri Smith, is not your typical college graduate. The Columbus State University graduate is a New York native at heart, but it was in Georgia where he found his voice and purpose.

He wrote his first rap when he was 12 years old and at the time, he dismissed it as a one-time thing. But when he was about 17-18 years old, he recorded his first song and decided to take his music a little more seriously.

“Music gave me a feeling of purpose in the world honestly. I feel like I’m filling a void that was waiting for me,” said Jiggs.

“I had a feeling of what am I really destined for and what was my purpose, reason, or how can I make sure when I leave this earth, I know I touched lives. When you feel like you on track to not do any of that, it can get dark for you.”

His inspiration

Crediting Styles P & Jay-Z as his favorite artists of all time shows he has a little New York at heart. With his New York sound, his Georgia accent still reigns throughout his music. He has ‘stank face’ bars because his wordplay is exceptional.

Music has changed him for the better because it gave him a purpose, a fresh start.

“I know what I was put here for and it’s not just rapping but using this to reach a broader audience to eventually touch this world in ways we can’t fathom yet.”

Jiggs compares his sound to natural selection.

“Like proper evolution, I studied the game and took the best parts of every era and formulated a gem with my own experiences and loves.”

His EP, “2 Live & Die in the A” was a salute to his city. Another song, “Mr. Perfect” has a wrestling theme.

“I wanted it to have no misses, so it was like a double entendre.”
