The strength of sisterhood in the midst of chaos.
This past Sunday (March 22), Atlanta resident, Stacy Franklin was brought to tears when she opened her door and saw her 15 line sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in her front yard.
The women had come to lift her spirits and wish her well wishes as she recovered from chemotherapy. Her daughter, Shannon Nicole Thompson, captured the heartfelt moment and shared it on Facebook and Instagram. The video has now gone viral with over 11,000 shares.

According to Thompson’s Facebook post, her mother has been dealing with side effects from her chemo mediation and fluid around her heart and lungs has made it hard for her to breathe. The women sang gospel songs, prayed and strolled. Keeping in mind the threat of the coronavirus, they kept their social distance, but the love remained close.

“Although it’s a strange time in the world right now, not being able to hug and gather with loved ones the way you normally would, perhaps self-quarantining and social distancing is allowing space for creativity in how we show up for those we love the most,” Thompson, who is also a member of AKA wrote on her Facebook post. “I am so grateful for the happiness and love that the Fabulous 15 brought to my mom today. This is what our wonderful sisterhood is about, and you ladies have shown up in the most incredible way.”
Stacy recently had another round of surgery. On Wednesday [ March 25], she posted the following update on her Facebook:
Out of recovery and in a normal room because results were negative! In a lot of pain from spasms because they took the equivalent of a 2liter of fluid and my body is trying to adjust. Lee and Shannon will be trained tomorrow on how to assist with the drains plus ill have an in-home nurse come in for a while until we get the hang of it: i will hopefully be home tomorrow, just in time to start next round of treatment. So prayers are working- today was one step closer to what i believe will be total and complete healing. Thank you to everyone, including complete strangers for your love and prayers!
We wish Stacy a speedy and healthy recovery! #BEATCANCER
