Ava Duvernay secures the bag #ForTheCulture. The Emmy and Oscar-nominated director has signed a $100 million, multi-year deal with Warner Brothers Television. Under the deal, Ms. Queen Sugar will produce television projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming services, including Netflix.
The Royal Woman says she “couldn’t be happier to call Warner Bros my home.”

“Ava DuVernay is one of the leading lights in our industry, a brilliantly talented writer, producer, director and entrepreneur whose ability to inspire with her art is exceeded only by her ability to entertain,” Peter Roth, Warner Bros TV Group president and chief content officer told Deadline. “We have had the great pleasure of working with her on Queen Sugar and The Red Line, and we are extremely excited about the new stories she has to tell.”
According to Deadline, the deal with Warner Bros. will be DuVernay’s first contract with any studio and will give her the “opportunity to sell her shows to anyone as opposed to be locked into to one outlet.”
The contract starts relationship begin in January 2019.
