Beyoncé opened the 2022 Oscars and per ‘Yonce fashion, snatched our souls for the culture, performing her Oscar-nominated song, “Be Alive” from the movie, King Richard.

King Richard is based on the life of Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus Williams, and the role he had in his daughters’ rise to fame. Serena and Venus introduced the singer’s performance. 

“Couldn’t wipe this Black off if I tried,” she sang, rhyming the line with “This is hustle personified.”

She went on to led an ensemble of dancers and musicians paying homage to 2Pac’s “California Love” and Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.” Among the performers was Blue Ivy. The 10-year-old was spotted in the group of dancers with lime green shades and even performed a dance routine with the group.

The Beyhive immediately took to Twitter to talk about the performance.

Did y’all see BLUE IVY getting in her eight counts?!!,” one fan tweeted

Another fan tweeted, “Look at Beyoncé’s manager SHOWING YOU ALL HOW IT’S DONE!! That’s my Queen BLUE IVY”

Beyoncé’s performance took place in Compton, California, the hometown of the Williams sisters. Beyoncé’s dancers donned tennis outfits, inspired by the movie.

“Be Alive” is Beyoncé’s first Oscar nomination. The mother-daughter duo are Grammy-nominated artists. Both of the Carter women won Grammys for Bey’s 2019 song, “Brown Skin Girl.”  

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Beyoncé reflected on how she taught Blue and her youngest daughter, Rumi, about self-care. 

“During quarantine, I went from overindulgences to creating positive rituals drawing from past generations and putting my own spin on things,” Bey said. “I discovered CBD on my last tour, and I’ve experienced its benefits for soreness and inflammation. It helped with my restless nights and the agitation that comes from not being able to fall asleep. I found healing properties in honey that benefit me and my children.”
