Where has that time gone! It seems like only yesterday Beyoncé wowed us with her baby bump carrying Blue Ivy Carter at the 2011 VMA Videos Awards. And now Blue Ivy is a whole 9-year-old! Ms. Carter celebrated her birthday on Jan. 7.
She’s thought to be spending her special day at home with mama Yoncé and Jay-Z and her 3-year-old twin siblings, Sir and Rumi, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
To celebrate her special day we listed our top favorite, boss moments of Blue!
- Becoming one of the youngest Grammy nominees.
Last month, Blue was nominated for a Best Music Video Grammy for her feature in her mother’s “Brown Skin Girl” song. Blue laid the following vocals: “Brown skin girl/ Your skin just like pearls/ The best thing in the world/ Never trade you for anybody else/ Singin’ brown skin girl/ Your skin just like pearls/ The best thing in the world. I’ll never trade you for anybody else, singin’…”
Blue won the outstanding duo/group prize for her part on “Brown Skin Girl” at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards, making her the youngest artist to win a major award.
2. Also…she’s a whole music video star!
Not too many people can steal the show from one of the greatest artists of our generation, but Blue managed to pull it off flawlessly in Beyoncé’s Black Is King visual album.
3. Laying down the vocals for Matthew Cherry’s Hair Love audiobook
Ms. Carter added ‘narrator’ to her resume last November when she became the voice behind Cherry’s new audiobook. Hair Love is based on the former NFL player’s Oscar-winning short film about a Black father who learns how to style his Black daughter’s natural hair.
4. Her cameos in Beyoncé’s new Ivy Park video
The video was supposed to be about Beyoncé’s latest Ivy Park x Adidas collection, but Blue stole the show in her two quick appearances. It was all in the expressions!
5. She’s a legit makeup artist
Last Halloween, Blue showed off her brush skills on her grandmother, Tina Knowles-Lawson. The then 8-year-old transformed her into a skeleton. “My Blue is a great makeup artist! She made me into Grandma Skeleton,” Lawson captioned her Instagram post.

6. Plus she is an unapologetic director
Beyoncé is a true artist but the secret to her artistry could be the behind the scenes coaching from her daughter. In a September 2020 Instagram post for the Wearable Art Gala, Beyoncé shares a corny joke. “Why does Snoop Dogg need an umbrella?”
“No, that voice,” Blue said from the background and goes on to critique her mother’s joke, before reaching her point and covering Queen Bey’s face. No, that’s a boss move!
