Creed III  is the ninth installment in the Rocky series. Despite the fact that this will be the first movie in the history of the franchise without core actor Sylvester Stallone.

But fans of the series will still recognize familiar major faces such as Tessa Thompson and Michael B. Jordan who is not only reprising his role as Adonis Creed, but he’s also making his directorial debut. And new to the franchise: Jonathan Majors.

This film will also still have the roughness, romanticism, and exciting action sequences that fans have come to anticipate and enjoy.

Below is everything you need to know about Creed III.

What will the plot of Creed III  be about?

The 2015 movie was all about Creed learning about his origins, including meeting his trainer and mentor, Rocky. Whereas the 2018 sequel followed Creed as he settled into his boxing career, being a new father and coming face to face with his father’s past, when he fights Viktor Drago; the son of the man who killed his father, Apollo Creed, in Rocky IV

In this third installment, Creed will cross paths with Damien (played by Majors), Adonis’ lifelong brother and boxing prodigy,  who is fresh out of the correctional facility and ready to establish himself as a boxing champion in his own way.  And he’s not looking to reunite with an old friend, but revenge.

Majors told Complex he modeled his character after a family member who was incarcerated.

“I modeled a great deal of him after my own stepfather who had been incarcerated for 15 years,” the Lovecraft Country star shared. “ And so I saw that; the resentment, the ambition, the drive, the fear, the joy, the awe of freedom. The fear of freedom. I saw all that, and so I was trying to put that in Dame.”

Creed III will be Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut

Not only is Jordan the star of the movie he’s also one of the major brains behind its creation. Creed III will be the 36-year-old’s directorial debut.

“I finally got to this place in my career where I really wanted to tell a story, you know, and not just be in front of the camera, not just execute somebody else’s vision,” Jordan shared during an Oct. 2022 virtual Q&A, as reported by PEOPLE. “And having a character that I’ve played twice before, you know it’s been 7, 8 years living with this guy, so to be able to tell a story of where I believe Adonis is at.”

Creed III premieres in theaters on March 3.
