Fashion designer Romeo Hunte drew inspiration from a 90’s classic for his latest collection. Hunte’s new spring and summer collection debuted during New York Fashion Week.
The collection is inspired by Spike Lee’s 1994 movie starring Crooklyn and his upbringing in Brooklyn, where the movie was based. The 26-look collection included Hunte’s signature crystal fringe and variations of his iconic sag pants.
The Crooklyn spin could be seen in the vibrant colors and nostalgic 90s bob and beaded-braided hairstyles. “It’s very Brooklyn, cool, early-’90s kid, with a twist,” Hunte told Vogue. “Bright colors, stripes, polos—but the polos are upside down.”
“While returning to his Brooklyn roots, Hunte oversaw every aspect of production in-house ensuring a hands-on approach managed every aspect of production in-house, ensuring a hands-on approach that underscores his commitment to craftsmanship and originality,” according to the press release shared with RoyalTee.
Hunte launched his lifestyle brand in 2014 while working as a personal retail shopper. His pieces have been worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Zendaya, Idris Elba, Chris Paul, Laverne Cox, Jay Tatum, Dwyane Wade, Hailey Bieber, Tobias Harris, Jennifer Hudson, and former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama.
