Iconic voices sit behind the intergalactic creation of Disney’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Leading the introductory vocals and the main character is actress, Diamond White.
RoyalTee Magazine had an exclusive interview with White and she shared her excitement about Moon Girl’s release. The story begins on earth with Lunella Lafayette (White), and her supernatural intelligence.
Science and technology come second nature to Lunella, a 13-year-old Black girl from New York City. Throughout her storyline, Lunella is seen as a devoted daughter and granddaughter that saves the world in between her studies; a pretty normal life with her 10-ton Tyrannosaurus Rex, Devil Dinosaur.
White shared her excitement by stating, “I’m just super excited that Moon Girl is finally coming out. I’m super excited that the representation is here.” White carried the main vocals for the introductory theme song, “Moon Girl Magic.”
The title sequence and the visuals emphasize the bold and vibrant style present in the teaser. The clip serves as both a music video for the entire song and a sneak preview of the series, featuring previously unreleased scenes.
The first episode aired on Feb. 10, this adventurous superhero animation is based on the comics authored by Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder, and Natacha Bustos. The music composer is award-winning artist Raphael Saadiq.
The executive producers include NAACP Image Award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Helen Suglamd (Blackish), and Steve Loter (Kim Possible). The villain, The Beyonder, is played by Fishburne, and Lunella’s best friend, Casey, is played by Libe Barer (I See You). Lunella is faced with modern teenage problems accompanied by abnormal curve balls that take her to new heights in self-realization.
White expressed her excitement about her favorite parts of filming Moon Girl, “I get to live out my 13-year-old superhero dreams and just go in the booth and kinda scream a little bit and let out my excitement.”
Other noted actors that brought this series to life include Method Man, Wesley Snipes, and Jennifer Hudson. The series comes right before Marvel releases Phase Five of their narrative.
