It’s been a long, hard but finally- it’s official!
On Saturday morning, former Vice President Joe Biden has been elected the 46th president of the United States. When he turns 78 next month, he will become the oldest president when he is inaugurated in January.
Biden says he was “humbled and honor” by the trust the American people have placed in him.
“America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country,” he tweeted. “The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.”

The news means we also have another Black woman in the White House! This time as the VP! Kamala Harris is now the first Black and Indian American woman to become vice president of the United States.
“This election is about so much more than Joe Biden or me,” the incoming Madam Vice President tweeted shortly after Biden. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.”

The American people voted in favor of Harris and President-elect Joe Biden, beating out President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in an epic, nail-biting election race that spanned almost a week. The fate of the country ended up boiling down to nail-biting votes from Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia, which historically flipped in Biden’s favor. Earlier this week Biden even managed to break his brother from another mother, President Barack Obama’s record for the most votes cast for any presidential candidate in history.
The Biden-Harris ticket won lots of favor, thanks to the help of celebrities and influencers who used their platforms to advocate heavily for their campaign. Hashtags such as #CountEveryVote trended for days after Tuesday’s Election Count.
The HBCU and Divine 9 love was even heavier for Harris, who is a 1986 graduate of Howard University and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

On August 11, Biden chose the HBCU graduate as his running mate, making her the first Black woman to be nominated for vice president by a major party. Before then, Harris was already #royalteeapproved and performing #blackgirlmagic. In 2003, she became the first Black woman elected as San Francisco’s District Attorney. After serving two terms as DA, Harris became the first Black person and in 2010, she became the first Black woman ever to become the state of California’s Attorney General. When she was elected to the Senate in 2016, Harris became of the first and most vocal to speak out against President Trump’s executive order on Muslims, which barred Muslims from entering the United States.
Harris is married to Doug Emhoff, and is stepmother to two children, Ella and Cole.
We’re so excited to see what the contributions she and President-elect Biden will bring to the table. Bide and Harris will be sworn-in office on January 20, 2020.
Congratulations Mr. President and Madam Vice President!
