This past Monday, Joy Reid Ann kicked off her new program, The ReidOut, on MSNBC. The launch makes her the only African-American to host a show on a primetime channel after she was named the new 7 p.m. host on MSNBC.
The last Black woman to host a primetime news show was late journalist Gwen Ifill, who was the co-anchor for PBS NewsHour until her death at the age of 61 in 2016.
Reid’s first guests were former President Bill Clinton and Hilary, and presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden. The debut night premiered #1 and was the 2nd highest rating ever at 7 pm for a regularly scheduled show on the network.
Reid takes over from longtime “Hardball” host, Chris Matthews, who resigned amid sexual assault allegations. The 51-year-old has been with the network for years as the anchor for the weekend show, AM Joy.
So far, I think we’re going to love her nightly ” Craziest Damn Thing?” segments! Her boldness, cutthroat, “tell it like it is”, no filter commentary is exactly what we need right now to change the narrative.
