In what she dreamed to be a “love letter to Black women”, Krystal Hardy Allen personally planned and curated an unforgettable journey to Africa for her and six of her closest friends as a way to honor and spend time with them as Black women who have walked beside her through varying decades of her life.
In a season where Black women are prioritizing rest and self-care more, successful entrepreneur and author Krystal Hardy Allen found therapeutic relief abroad in the royal motherland. To celebrate her 40th birthday, on Jan. 15th, the CEO and Founder of K. Allen Consulting and six of her closest girlfriends stamped their passports and embarked on a transformative trip to Cairo, Egypt.
Each friend set aside the week and travel costs to help celebrate her, and as her thank you back to them for genuine sisterhood and love over the years, Allen surprised the ladies by covering the costs of 100% of the amazing trip activities and experiences they collectively enjoyed, which included camelback riding, personal tours of the pyramids, a private cruise down the famous Nile River, Egyptian museum tours and individual massages at the Four Seasons Cairo where they stayed for the duration of the trip.
The women also enjoyed ATV riding through the deserts and had personal Four Seasons drivers for airport transportation courtesy of the birthday girl. To immortalize the experience, Allen flew professional photographer Michael Carson to Egypt to capture breathtaking and sun-kissed, melanin moments using the ancient monuments as a backdrop.
Love letter to Black women
The girls trip was not only a time to fellowship with her tribe but an opportunity of self-discovery and appreciation. Allen called the experience a “love letter to Black women entering their 40s,” reflecting on what this milestone means—not just for her as a woman and entrepreneur, but for Black women in general as a way of redefining success, joy, and sisterhood on our own terms.
“My vision was deeply personal, spiritual, and intentional from start to finish,” Allen wrote in an Instagram caption. “As a little girl, I learned about the 7 wonders of the world. As an adult, I dreamed of what it would be like to visit and touch the Great Pyramids, to sail on the Nile River, and to see what our ancestors created and left as a visual and symbolic legacy. When I began to pray and contemplate how I wanted to enter 40, Africa fell on my heart and so did centering my Black womanhood.”
Allen joins the ranks of many Black women who are making it a point to prioritize self-care through travel this year following the 2024 presidential election between Vice President Kamala Harris and now President Donald Trump.
“As a Black woman – given the presidential election and overall political weight and realities of the world,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “God knew exactly where I needed to be and with whom to enter 2025 recharged, refreshed, and renewed to fulfill the next chapter of my life.”
This is not the first time Krystal has done something over-the-top for her close circle. Back in 2023, as a Black woman CEO, she surprised her entire staff with tickets to Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert stop in New Orleans.
The video reaction went viral. That same year, she gifted her parents a historic home in her hometown of Selma for Christmas, making them first-time homeowners. Black women are trailblazers, and Krystal Hardy Allen is one we love to watch shine and pave the way demonstrating what is possible in a new era of Black womanhood, leadership, service, and entrepreneurship.
