Teen Vogue Editor in chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner once again broke the media industry’s glass ceiling when she became The Cut’s newest and the youngest editor in chief of any Condé Nast magazine.
New York Magazine editor in chief David Haskell announced the move earlier this month. The Cut is New York Magazine’s sub-publication dedicated to women, covering style, self, culture, and power.
“Shouldering the hopes and my dreams of my ancestors always but especially today with this one,” the now 30-year-old captioned the moment on an Instagram post on Jan. 4.
Where it Started, How it’s Going
According to the New York Times, Peoples Wagner made waves during her role at Teen Vogue as Conde Nast’s youngest Editor in chief and its third Black editor to hold the title.
But before she assumed the publication’s highest position, she started at its lowest.
In a video posted to Teen Vogue’s YouTube channel, she revealed that she helped maintain the publication’s fashion closet as an intern during her sophomore year of college at Buena Vista University.
“It wasn’t as glamorous as I thought it was going to be, as portrayed on TV,” she said in an interview with Kinfolk. “But I really loved the prospect of maybe one day making all the changes that I had dreamed about.”
Made Her Mark
After graduating in 2012 with her bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and Communication, the Wisconsin native made her way to the Big Apple. She worked in several fashion-related roles before transitioning to her role as Editor in chief at Teen Vogue.
Although she only held the title for a little more than two years, she certainly made her presence felt.
During her tenure, Peoples Wagner partnered with Sandrine Charles to kickstart The Black in Fashion Council. This organization seeks to represent and secure the advancement of Black individuals in the fashion and beauty industries. She also opened the door for more content relating to social issues and brought in more people of color to work on creative projects.

Moving Forward
In her new role at The Cut, Peoples Wagner will be responsible for steering the publication’s strategic direction, which includes overseeing all of its content, events, and brand partnerships.
No mountain seems too high to climb for Peoples Wagner. The EIC turned 30 this past October and is anxiously waiting for the next chapter in her life.
“I’ve had to learn the hard way that you can still know peace without knowing what’s next, without having all the answers, with life being so unexpected as 2020 has been,” she shared in her Instagram Birthday post on Oct. 30. “Grateful for this beautiful struggle called life.”
