GG Townson is ready for Christmas and the new year!

“I’m more excited for Christmas because I get to spend the most time with my family during Christmastime,” she shares with RoyalTee.  “My family all comes together and we have a sleepover on Christmas Eve. We build whatever gifts need to be built for the kids, bake, and set out cookies for Santa, and just have wonderful family time.”

It’s a heartwarming wrap-up to what has been a remarkable year for this Royal Woman, which includes two hit TV shows and the portrayal of a hip-hop icon.

On Sacrifice

Townson currently stars in BET+’s SacrificeThe series premiered on Nov. 4 and follows a high-powered entertainment attorney, Daniella Hernandez, played by Paula Patton. Townson plays Jameson, one of Hernandez’s VIP clients. The seemingly perfect client-attorney pairing turns out to be a dangerous plot.

Although she plays a bad girl in real life, Townson is nothing like her character. But she enjoys playing the role.

“That’s what I love about my job. The range of characters I get to play that are so different from who I am on a day-to-day basis is what’s so great about what I do,” she tells RoyalTee.

Previously, she appeared in CW’s All American and starred along with Tahj Mowry in the drama flick, Welcome Matt, which was nominated for the 2021 Hollywood and African Prestigious Award.

But one of her largest accomplishments that she is surely guaranteed to build on was her portrayal of Cheryl ‘Salt’ James in the Lifetime biopic Salt-N-Pepa.

“I relate to her a lot in regard to her professional journey and her journey as a woman on such a personal level,” Townson tells RoyalTee.

Acting and advocating

The 31-year-old knows a thing or two about legacy. Her grandfather, Ronald Townson, was a founding member of the 1960’s R&B, The 5th Dimension. Mr. Townson noticed the spark in his musical, dance-loving granddaughter and his agent signed her shortly after. Over the next few years, Townson went on to appear in tween shows such as Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 and Black family sitcoms like Everybody Hates Chris.

“I think my life would be right where it is now,” she tells RoyalTee, reflecting on her present. Never been one to take anything for chance or granted, she’s a firm believer that if her granddad did not give her an opportunity when she was younger, she would still be where she is today. Because that’s how destiny works.

“Yes, my start would’ve been different, but I believe what is for you is for you. My story is already written, and my steps have been ordered.”

When she is not acting, the All American star is advocating. Recently, Townson started a community organization. Its focus is aimed towards women empowerment and inspiring young girls through educational, recreational, and artistic outreach.

“It’s still in the beginning stages, but I hope my organization will become a safe place for girls and young women to thrive and learn to walk in their true purpose, all while embracing the magic that is within them,” she says.

As the year wraps up, one resolution Townson plans to stay consistent with is journaling.

“I plan to stay committed to the journaling by using a daily planner that gives me daily prompts to reflect on my days,” she says.
