ABC Television network is already working with #blackgirlmagic. From #TGIT ( “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder”) to ‘black-kish’. Now the network is surprising us again by casting its first African-American lead in the “Bachelor” franchise.
Rachel Lindsay will be the first ever African-American lead “The Bachelorette.” The 31 year-old is a attorney from Dallas. Currently, she is the front runner for Nick Viall’s heart in the “The Bachelor”.
Lindsay tells ABC News that she wants a companion, a big family and loves kids. She also says that she is ready for that stage in her life.
Recently, ABC has been criticized for having a lack of diversity in its 21 seasons of “The Bachelor” and 13 seasons of “The Bachelorette.” But that cycle was changed last year when the network hired its first black entertainment president, Channing Dungey. She oversees all of the programming at the network and one of the first things on her agenda was to diversify the “Bachelor” cast.
You can watch Lindsay and her journey to find love on the new season of “The Bachelorette” on May 22.
