Here’s some good news that you didn’t know you needed: “The Proud Family” is making a comeback with a brand new reboot series. The reboot of the Disney classic will be called “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.”
The family that will push your buttons and makes you want to hug ’em, per Destiny’s Child and Solange’s theme song for the show, looks a little different now. They are also dealing with issues that were not as pertinent back when the show initially aired in 2001. In this new series, Penny will be dealing with everything from social media to social causes.
What’s New With The Proud Family
The new show’s executive producers, Bruce Smith and Ralph Farquhar, gave fans a sneak peek of what they can expect of the close-knit family in a Youtube video. Here’s the rundown:

Penny Proud is 14 years old now and loving every minute of it. Her twin siblings, Bebe and Cece, are a little older. Don’t let their ages fool you – they still only communicate through gibberish. Trudy, Penny’s mother, now owns a veterinary clinic, Trudy’s Pet Ambulance. Penny’s father Oscar is as overbearing as ever, and Suga Mama is still a free spirit.
The Boulevardez family, made up of Oscar, Felix, Sunny, and Lacienaga, and Penny’s longtime pals Dijonay and Zoey, are also making a comeback in the reboot. Penny’s squad has a new addition, too, and her name is Maya. The producers did not say much about this new character except that “she’s woke, y’all” (1:24).
Several of the show’s original voice actors will be reprising their old roles. Namely, Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, and Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby Proud, to name a few. Keke Palmer will join the cast as a newcomer to voice the character Maya.
Details of when the series will be available to stream have not been released yet. For now, fans can catch up on all of the drama and laughs from the original show on Disney+.
