Disney’s WandaVision recently came to a satisfying conclusion. Satisfying how you may ask? All because of Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau of course! Personally, she stole the show.
From her curly full fro to her mega-watt smile, to her playing an absolutely amazing superhero, Parris is that woman! My happiness continues to flourish as the representation continues.
I was super excited when Javicia Leslie was announced as the new title superhero in the CW series Batwoman. Now, I have another reason to be excited. Seeing black women in these big cinematic roles and working in entertainment companies like Marvel, Disney, and DC, is simply refreshing and very much needed.
Let’s Hear It For Monica Rambeau!
In the highly acclaimed show, Parris stars as Agent Monica Rambeau. She’s a compassionate, gentle, yet fierce and powerful superhero also known in the Marvel Universe as Spectrum. In the show, we see the origin story of how Spectrum became to be. So far, Parris’s role has been well received by many viewers, stating that she is simply iconic!

‘WandaVision’ Is Doing Something Right By Parris
One thing I love about Parris as Rambeau is that nothing feels forced. Often times in the film industry, Black people are cast in roles solely to harp on stereotypes or our unique struggles.
However, in WandaVision, Parris’s casting feels genuine and natural. In the show, her race is never mentioned, and neither her gender. This is important when it comes to the appropriate representation of Black people.
Also, it’s nice that Parris’s race didn’t turn into a think piece. Rambeau’s actions and strong personality speak volumes!
Plus a character like Rambeau does not need the cliche inhibiting narrative that often comes with casting a Black person in films. Sometimes, we don’t want our race to be dissected. So props to you Disney!
I am not the only one who finds this kind of representation refreshing!
Sometimes I just want to enjoy a show. https://t.co/7xiTrOZkCw

It wasn’t that deep at all. We beg for representation then they want to dissect that like-

I do hope representation like this continues. However, it is more impactful to have Black people and other minorities play in these empowering roles without their race playing such a stereotypical factor. We are definitely going to see more of Parris as Rambeau. Hopefully, in the near future, she’ll have her own movie or show like Leslie.
Let the representation continue!
