Disney’s first Black princess is getting her own television series. The Princess and the Frog is being adapted into a Disney+ series titled Tiana. News of a series first started circulating in 2020.
Here is everything you need to know about the Tiana series.
What will it be about?
Variety reports Tiana will be a follow-up to the animated 2009 film and follow her adventures as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia with her husband, Prince Naveen. If you can recall from the movie, Tiana and Naveen got married, first as frogs (a spell cast by the Shadow Man) and then as humans. Tiana also ended up purchasing and opening her restaurant, Tiana’s Palace.
Joyce Sherri has been recruited as the lead writer and director for the Disney+ series. “I can’t wait for you to see Tiana’s next adventure!,” Sherri announced the news on her Instagram.
Anika Noni Rose, who voiced Tiana in the movie, will return for the series. There are also rumors that a live-action is in the making but those reports have not been officially confirmed.
In August 2023 Keith David, who voiced Dr. Facilier in the 2009 animated version, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to clarify that he’d heard nothing himself about the rumored remake.
“I’m not sure if this is true, but I do know that @Disney has not asked me to reprise the role of Dr. Facilier,” David tweeted.
But what is confirmed is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction, which opens in 2024 at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The attraction is expected to dig a little deeper into Tiana’s story including her newest venture of opening a food processing company called Tiana’s Food.
When will Tiana premiere?
Tiana will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
