If you haven’t figured it out already, your vote matters! 

Tracee Ellis Ross has been doing her part and using her platform to encourage African Americans to vote in the 2020 presidential election.  The Black-ish star appeared in the final video for the “OWN Your Vote”  campaign to educate people on how to identify voter suppression and combatting it. 

Please know voter suppression is happening,” the Girlfriends actress stressed in the video. “And no one would try to suppress your vote if your vote didn’t matter.  Your vote absolutely matters.”

Ross then went on to explain what voter suppression looks like. 

“It can be everything from long lines, voter ID restrictions,  reduced polling locations or illegally purging voters from the rolls.”

According to MSNBC, Florida and Georgia are among the top states where mail-in ballots from Blacks, Hispanics and Asians have been rejected at a higher rate than Whites.  

“But don’t let any of this prevent you from voting,” Ross reassured viewers in the view. She encouraged voters to find out their local election office and return their ballot by Election Day.

“The best answer to voter suppression is voter turnout, so turn out and vote,” Ross said in the video. “Pull up, show up, and vote. Wear a mask, be safe, and vote. But vote. ”

“OWN Your Vote” is a bipartisan campaign launched by Oprah Winfrey that partners with national and local grassroots and voting rights organizations and provides resources for African American women to vote in the November election. Learn more about the campaign here.
