Looks can be deceiving!

Its no secret  that Amber Rose loves to show off her skin. But this time she’s using it to empower women from all walks of life. This past Friday,  the hashtags on Instagram about Game 4 of the NBA Finals quickly turned to the philanthropist and model  when she posted a bare-it-all , photo of herself in a bottomless bikini and a black fur robe. Instagram deleted it two hours later  for violating its ‘no-nudity’ guidelines.  But it was posted long enough to get everyone talking. While some comments were offensive and downright nasty, others found it liberating and inspiring.

Nevertheless, the self-proclaimed feminist made a bold statement over the weekend. And despite the hashtag #bringbackthebush that’s been going viral, its far from its purpose.

The Amber Rose SlutWalk is annual conference Rose  started back in 2015.  According to the website, its mission is to  “deliver a flawlessly executed event geared toward raising awareness about sexual injustice and gender inequality” and “impact and uplift, while shifting the paradigm of rape culture.” The idea of the festival  initially came from two women who spoke about an experience they had in 2011 with an police officer who told them to stop dressing like sluts to lessen sexual assault incidents against them.

Over the years, the model and many other women like her  have been targeted with derogatory terms such as slut. Society assumes that if you dress and act a certain way, that you deserve a certain type of treatment. That is not always the cause. Hence, looks can be deceiving. At first glance looking at Rose’s bottomless nude picture, you think sex, lust, maybe even a snapshot of an upcoming sex tape.  Various media outlets dwell on the idea that she posted a naked  picture and the memes that followed it, instead of its empowering, underlying statement.

Its not about the bush! Rose is working to tell the world she’s more than just a pretty face and body and we’re feeling it!  She’s a advocate, activist and a businesswoman.  Her non-profit, the Amber Rose Foundation  focuses on women’s  issues, specifically rape, a topic the 33 year-old is  passionate about. She  speaks out against victim blaming, the popular notion that’s its the victim fault. Its never your fault. And she is also huge advocate for gender  LGBT rights. Not to mention, she’s  a phenomenal mother , which is arguably one of the greatest title a woman can have.

No matter how you may think of Ms. Rose, you cannot deny she is a charismatic, clever force that will get your attention, whether you want it or not.
