Nyakim Gatwech is a 24 year-old melanin beauty from South Sudan. Known as the “Queen of the Dark”, her gorgeous complexion and photos have social media in awe. But her message of self-love and empowerment are even more hypnotizing, especially for darker-skinned girls. And she’s ready to clap back on anyone who says differently. Below are a few of our favorite captions from Nyakim’s Instagram.
“When you look into your reflection through the mirror what do you see? I hope you see nothing but how beautiful, smart, intelligent, outstanding, unique you are you!”
“Some people stay snapping me asking me why am I so dark? How on earth they expect me to answer that question? Beside the fact that I’m bless with melanin and I love all this darkness.”
“Show me a skin with no bleach and I’ll show you beauty.”
“Let’s embrace the contrast of the dark skin against any other color, let’s embody our sun-kissed melanin.”
“Confidence and self love starts within oneself. Love the skin you are in for the Crater give it to you as a blessing not a curse.”
“Beauty is not in what you wear is, it the eyes of the individual, we are all beautiful one way or another.”
“My skin is who I am and I’m proud to be called my type of black not just black. I’m proud to be called Nuer, I’m proud be called South Sudanese. I’m proud to be blessed with my type of darkness. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
