Unless you’re five glasses deep in wine with your girls or reading a Zane book, the conversation of sex is still about as awkward as telling the elders in your family why you need to see a therapist versus laying yourself out on the altar every Sunday morning. However, Royal Women like Kahlilah Dawkins, are flipping the narrative and showing everyone it’s OK to be an empowering, boss chick, (with morals) and can still get your freak on, and be called a lady.

She is the owner of My Sister’s Secrets, Tampa’s first black-owned adult and lingerie store. The shop offers products for every fantasy from Zane to 50 Shades.

Dawkins tells RoyalTee the idea of My Sister’s Secrets came about a few years ago when she attended a pleasure party. And she wanted to create a welcoming space where people can seek out their innermost desires comfortably. #NoJudgeZone

“I wanted an environment just for women where they can come and feel comfortable,” she says.  “I want them to feel like we’re family. It’s OK, whatever it is you want to do or experience, you can do that here,” she says.

Comfortability is key not only at My Sister’s Secrets but in Dawkins’ own personal life.

“It’s important to be comfortable,” she says. “And whatever it is you want to experience, then you should be able to experience that with your partner. I feel like you should be open and free and if that person doesn’t want to experience, then somebody that does.”

In other words, get a freak that matches the freak in you.

“I wanted an environment just for women where they can come and feel comfortable. I want them to feel like we’re family. It’s OK, whatever it is you want to do or experience, you can do that here.”

Dawkins aspires to create a franchise and launch multiple stores in Florida, and eventually across the country. She hopes her new business will help uplift women and encourage them to embrace their sexuality.

What makes Kahlilah a Royal Woman?

“I’m a Royal Woman because I am a business owner. I believe in uplifting women and I want to see everyone flourish.”
