Finally, the prayers of Black and Brown girls all over have been answered! Starting on Feb. 12, Brandy’s ‘Cinderella’ will stream on Disney+

On Thursday, the songstress reunited with Queen Constantina, or should we say, Whoopi Goldberg, to announce the news on “The View.”

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella premiered in 1997 on ABC and featured the late, Whitney Houston as Cinderella’s fairy godmother. Viewers also loved its new-age take on the classic story.

Brandy is just as excited as her fans that the beloved film will now be available for both old and new generations to enjoy.

“I’m so excited that Cinderella has a home now at Disney plus,” she said. “We can celebrate, and share, and inspire a whole new generation.”

The Rodgers & Hammerstein adaption has been a long-time representation for young girls of color since its premiere 24 years ago. In an interview with RoyalTee Magazine last May, social media influencer and photographer, Symone Seven, shared that it was Brandy’s adaptation that inspired her. The St. Pete, FL native went viral when she put her own melanin take on the Disney princesses.

“Little girls, they love Disney princesses,” she said, even to this day I still love my Black Cinderella (Brandy).”
