Kelly Rowland celebrates love, life, and motherhood in her new music video for “Black Magic” – and what better way to do that than by flaunting her own Black Magic with her newborn son, Noah Jon. Rowland celebrates family. The newborn makes a cameo in his mother’s video.

The new track and video, released just after her 40th birthday (Feb. 11), captures her baby bump painted into a globe. The word “LOVE” is written across the continent of Africa. Rowland also shares an intimate moment in the video with her two sons, Noah and Titan 3:44 into the video.

“‘Black Magic’ expresses everything there is to feel confident, feel proud of, feel encouraged by being Black,” Rowland said in a statement about the song. ” I am really excited that it’s coming now which is in the thick of Black History Month. To me, I feel like we should be celebrating 365 days a year from what we’ve been through to what we continue to fight for when it comes to equal rights and justice. To me, this is a fight song. We’re continuing to put our magic forth so that we can put it on display for others to continue to see, even when they don’t want to see it. But I think they can’t help but see it because Black magic is effortless.”

EP on the way

Rowland revealed her pregnancy with baby number two on the cover of Women’s Health in October. Although she felt hesitant to announce the news as the pandemic and racial protests continued to sweep the country, she thought she needed to remind people that life joys are still essential.

“Being able to have a child… I’m knocking at 40’s door in February,” she said in an interview with the magazine. “Taking care of myself means a lot to me.”

She also felt an obligation to release the new music that she had promised her fans.

“They wanted an album first, but they got a baby!” she said. “I was like, ‘I have to figure this out so they get both.’”

Positioned initially to release on Dec. 4, Rowland’s EP, titled K, will now release on Feb. 19. The 6-track collection will feature “Black Magic,” as well as the previously released songs “Coffee” and “Hitman.”
