When your man tells you he could give you the world, in Ciara’s case, that could mean a baseball team.

As we get older, when it comes to dating, locking down a person we can build with ( and make some money moves) becomes more important than finding someone we can lay down with. R&B singer Ciara and her hubby are a testimony of this and they’re doing both very well!

The “Body Party” singer and her beau, Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson, have invested in a major project that will bring Major League Baseball to the city of Portland, Oregon. The couple is investing in the Portland Diamond Project, which is currently negotiating several bids on potential stadium ideas in the city. If the project falls through and a baseball team does come to Portland, the Wilsons will be the primary owners of it. The amount they invested has not been made public, but according to their spokesperson, each of them invested individually.

Other bidders include former Trail Blazers television announcer, Mike Barrett; four-time Gold Glove winner, Dale Murphy and three-time Gold Glove winner, Harold Reynolds.

The project would make Ciara one of the few African-American women to have ownership in the MLB franchise.

On Saturday , the couple toured potential stadium sites.

In a press release, Ciara explains how her childhood has always made athletics important to her.

“As a young girl growing up in Atlanta, I was a tomboy who ran track and worked the hot dog stand at Turner Field,” she said. “I am excited about the opportunity to bring the comradery of the game to the city of Portland. I want to see this vision come to life and empower more women owners in major sports franchises.”

Wilson echoes his wife’ s enthusiasm, releasing his own statement on Friday. The 29 year-old said “a new team is on the horizon.”

“Portland is a place sports fanatics get excited about, headquarters to Nike—a brand repped by all kinds of athletes—and a city where a new stadium is about to stand tall,” Wilson said in a press release. “Ciara and I are both honored to be part of this effort. As owners, investors, and partners in this incredible opportunity, we plan to change the game of baseball and impact the lives of kids everywhere.”

Wilson also adds with this project, he and his wife are dedicated to spreading their love of sports to kids everywhere, specifically the inner-city youngsters.

“There were only 68 African Americans on MLB opening-day rosters. 68 out of 750 players! That’s not enough,” he said. “With this project, we will make sure that every little kid in this country has the opportunity to learn the lessons of sportsmanship and competition. No matter their skin color or economic status, every kid deserves to have an equal opportunity and the resources it takes to play.”

As for Ciara, the 32 year-old hopes her venture will inspire other women to take leadership and management roles in the sports industry.

“My dream is to empower more females in ownership of major sports franchises,” she said in a press conference on Saturday, “and open more doors for Sienna [ her daughter] and all girls everywhere.”
