NBA Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his three brothers Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex announced they have invested in TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC).

The two-time NBA MVP and seven-time NBA All-Star announced the deal in an X post (formerly known as Twitter).

“We want to make golf our own and for everybody,” the 28-year-old wrote. “We couldn’t be more excited to shape the future of this sport.”

The brothers join Serena Williams, her husband Alexis Ohanian, and Venus Williams, who are the owners of the league, Golfweek reports. Thanasis announced the news on his podcast, called “Thanalysis.”, featuring Williams and Ohanian.

“Giannis is good at it,  I’m bad,” Thanasis joked with the Reddit founder in the Aug. 29th episode.

What is TGL?

Tiger Woods started TGL with fellow famed golfer Rory Mcilroy and TMRW Sports. TGL stands for Tech Infused Golf League. The new league is in partnership with the PGA TOUR and is fusing advanced tech and live action in primetime with a new focus on fan engagement.

TGL intends to bring a new innovative approach to golf that’s expected to increase fan engagement. The league will consist of six teams, each consisting of three PGA TOUR players competing in a two-hour team golf competition in a state-of-the-art facility that will combine a data-rich virtual course with a short game complex. The purpose of these innovations is to increase fan engagement.

Four of six teams have already been announced for the upcoming 2024 season which includes LAGC,  led by Los Angeles Golf Club, owned by Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams, an Atlanta team owned by Arthur Blank, a Boston team owned by Fenway Sports Group, and a New York team owned by Steven Cohen.

LAGC will be the Antetokounmp’s, third investment into a major league sports team. The brothers secured stakes in Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers and Major League Soccer’s Nashville SC.
