Alumni and supporters of Florida A&M University have more to brag about in the land of orange and green. FAMU was ranked as one of the top public HBCUs in the country for the fifth consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report‘s “2023-2024 Best Colleges,” moving up to No.3.

According to the report, FAMU jumped from No. 103 to No. 91, landing a spot in the top 100, which was a goal outlined in the university’s “Boldly Striking” five-year strategic plan, according to a press release. Additionally, FAMU ranked No. 170 among national universities compared to its No. 202 ranking last year.

“This is outstanding news,” university president Dr. Larry Robinson said in a prepared station. “This reflects our collective effort and our unstinting commitment to the success of our students and our making good use of the funds invested in us by Florida taxpayers, funding agencies, private-sector partners, philanthropic foundations, and friends.”

“I am thrilled to see our institution’s remarkable progress,” added Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Allyson Watson. “Our ascent in the U.S. News & World Report rankings underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence.”

“We will continue to boldly strike forward as an internationally renowned institution of higher learning,” Watson continued. “Our alumni expect the best from us, our students deserve the best and our faculty and staff contribute to us being the best.”

In a brief interview with U.S. News, Robinson added, “These new rankings is our testament to FAMU’s focus on student success, it shows how much we poured into that over the last several years and really throughout our history.”

Spelman, Howard among top HBCUs

Other notable HBCUs that made the top rankings on U.S. News & World Report are Spelman College which ranked as the #1 HBCU, followed by Howard University and FAMU rounding out the top 3.

 “These rankings underscore why our mission matters and are helpful to attract a diverse pool of students, top-tier faculty and staff, research opportunities and funding support, as well as inspiring pride among our college community and alumnae,” said Helene Gayle, president of Spelman College in a prepared statement.

Tuskegee University, Morehouse College, Xavier University, North Carolina A&T University, Clafin University, Deleware State University, and North Carolina Central University wrapped up the top ten HBCUs ranked by U.S. News.
