Across the country, black teachers have been celebrating the culture by decorating their classroom doors. The teachers used rolled up black construction paper to bring out the curls and afros and collages of great African-American leaders.

Below are a few of our favorites:

“We are brave like Ruby.”

Denise Almonte used Ruby Bridges as  the inspiration for her door.Bridges was the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School . Almonte is a first-grade teacher at  Sea Castle Elementary School in Miramar, Florida.

 

“It’s currently Black history month and as a woman I feel like we need to stand together and be united! Being a minority and a female we all need to take Pride in who you are and be strong for what you want .“- Mrs. Madoo and Ms. Tranquille of Endeavor Primary Learning Center, Lauderhill, Fla.

FLOTUS door by Alexis Cooke of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Fla.

Hollie who goes by @chinalove on Instagram decked out her door at a Brooklyn School.

 Turns out her door above was inspired by a real Queen, Ivelisse.

A double dose of melanin in this hallway:

Mahogany on a door, this teacher used Diana Ross as her inspiration. *Side note: If you haven’t seen the 1975 movie, Mahogany, treat yourself to a movie night with your girls and wine and please do. It truly teaches black women how to love the skin they’re in.*

And it’s not just the teachers who are decking out their doors in the melanin! Thairis Rivas shared a picture of the door she crafted at New Destiny Housing in New York City.
