Watch out world! We’re going underwater! Disney has found its mermaid princess in R&B singer, Halle Bailey. The 19-year-old has been selected to play Ariel in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Bailey currently stars in Freeform’s Grownish and is one-half of the sensational signing group with her sister, Chloe X Halle.  She posted the exciting news on their Twitter and Instagram pages, using the cartooned image of a melanin-toned Ariel and called it a  “dream come true.” The animated feature will be her feature film debut.

Director Rob Marshall told Variety that Bailey “possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.”

Melissa McCarthy is rumored to play the sea witch, Ursula and there’s also tea that Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina can be apart of the cast.

The original songs from the 1989 movie will be brought back to life by its original composer,   Alan Menken and “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also one of the movies’s producers.

Production is expected to start early 2020.
